Every year, I help put on the Dolphin Dip Extravaganza, which happens in Surf City, NC, on January 1st. It’s sort of like a Polar Plunge, but in the Atlantic Ocean – a ritualistic way to wash away the negative energies of the previous year and start the new year fresh and invigorated – and thousands of people usually attend. They start gathering on the beach at 11 a.m.. where they mingle about, watch some entertainment (aerial dancers, belly dancers, drummers, etc.), participate in the costume contests, and then jump into the water a noon.
The Dolphin Dip is also a fundraiser for local charity. All proceeds from this year’s t-shirt sales and sponsors benefit Ocean Cure, which provides free surf workshops for veterans, the disabled, cancer patients, and anyone else who may not otherwise be able to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of riding the waves. They’ve helped many people gain the confidence they need to enjoy life to the fullest.
Right now, we’re running a Thunderclap to spread awareness about The Dolphin Dip and Ocean Cure. If you aren’t familiar with Thunderclap, it’s a crowdsourcing tool that’s similar to Kickstarter or Go Fund Me, but instead of people donating money, they don’t a Facebook status update, tweet, or Tumblr post. They opt-in to have the message sent out for them, so all of the messages are sent at once. The purpose is to, hopefully, create a trend and reach as many people as possible.
If you have a minute, please join our Thunderclap and spread the word about The Dolphin/Ocean Cure. It’s super easy to do and it costs you nothing.
